Carnevale Toucan
Following my exploration of the concept of the Plague Doctor masks, this mask reaffirms the bird-like quality of its origins. Whereas the original Plague Doctor masks looked like very sinister birds indeed, I decided to make this one exuberantly colorful. Made with the thermoplastic Wonderflex© material, it shows individually sculpted feathers and a smooth, lustrous beak. A crown of exotic rooster tail feathers completes the look. This is a substantial mask and it measures about 14" from the top to the tip of the beak, not counting the added feathers. "Nostrils" on top of the snout and a larger opening underneath the jaw provide adequate air flow and allow wearer to drink from a straw without removing the mask. This is a one-of-a-kind mask, never to be repeated again. Leather straps with Velcro provide a secure hold.
